Discussing global migration and other issues, Professor Jean-Pierre Murray, who focuses on global governance and international law, warned of a decline in multilateralism and the “liberal international world order” as a result of Trump’s rise. As students at an institution whose mission is to prepare us for thoughtful and productive lives, we have an obligation to be better than the hateful and divisive rhetoric consuming our civic discourse. After class, I asked those same classmates to talk.

In the capstone, teams of four students engage in a data-analysis project for organizations in the public and private sectors. In 2018, George Roberts ‘66 P’93 donated $25 million to expand data science education and computing education. To fulfill the capstone requirement, the major would also require students to participate in a clinic in addition to completing a thesis.

At CMC, I am majoring in PPE-Gov, and I have an intermittent sequence in imposter syndrome. In my free time, you’ll find me hanging out with friends, on a late night walk, or working on an arts and crafts project. One of my favorite things about CMC is the community, and I’m really looking forward to contributing to helping make Wohlf feel like home for everyone as an RA. I'm excited to be able to help spread that positive community at Green and throughout campus. I am a psychology major with a sequence in gender and sexuality studies!

Bill Kristol Says He Would Vote For Zohran Mamdani for New York City Mayor

You can generally find me at Heggblade – either at the tables on the first floor or hanging out upstairs at CARE. I’m originally from Harare, Zimbabwe. I'm Tendai — I'm in the BAMA program and also pursuing a Sequence in Data Science. Otherwise, my doors are always open for y’all to peruse my overflowing bookshelf, craft together, or just vibe! Feel free to ask me about these or any campus organizations, and we can explore them together.

I have a tea-bar cart in my room and would love to share a cup of tea with you if you want to talk about anything. But most of all, I love being around people and creating fun and meaningful spaces — whether that’s for music, deep convos, spontaneous dance parties, or games. I love to cook in Janie's, go to the farmer's market, craft a bunch of random things, and yap, so I hope to catch y'all at my open door hours.

U.S. Foreign Policy Outlook After the 2024 Election

Vote for a president who will continue to make CMC the best place to be! We have already established ourselves as the most cohesive class that CMC has seen to date, and it is my desire as President to keep it that way. I have loved getting to know all of you through our Zooms and I want to keep that attitude and excitement going. I want to make sure that everyone feels at home at CMC. I fell in love with the environment and felt instantly at home. I knew I wanted to attend CMC from the second I set foot on campus.

In my public policy class’s election debrief that evening, our professor asked why we thought Trump won. In fact, the post was meant to do the opposite, reminding us to love our cmc markets review neighbors, even when we disagree with them. One Instagram follower responded, “Is this a joke?

Introducing the 2025-26 RAs!

I’m always around campus whether it be studying, chilling at the hub or hanging out and sunbathing with my friends! Koch observed that Trump’s actions do not always align with promises made on the campaign trail. Moreover, many of the professors responded to student questions about whether Trump can or wants to achieve all of his stated goals. Finally, the Director of the Keck Center and an expert on Russia politics, Hilary Appel, Podlich Family Professor of Government and George R. Roberts Fellow, outlined Trump’s stated approach to dealing with the war in Ukraine, which she characterized as more dovish toward Russia than the Biden administration.

  • I’m Lexi Punishill and I’m hoping to get your vote for first year class president.
  • If I am not in Crown, you'll see me at Ath tea with a chocolate strawberry, at the library, or collecting sloth and cat paraphernalia for my dorm!
  • I have so many ideas for us to connect during this time.
  • Specifically, I’m interested in how, as FYCP, I can develop virtual events and represent our class’ needs with an eye towards sustainability, mental health, and inclusion.
  • In terms of the differences between the data science major and sequence, Uvin believes that “the major is heavy on math, statistics, and probability.

What You Need to Know About the Soon-to-be-Launched Data Science Major

I am so happy to be at CMC and I want to guarantee that everyone feels the same way. We will continue to have more class zooms within CMC but also as a 5C community. Whether it is virtual events (synchronous and asynchronous) or hopefully physical in the spring, as your president I will make sure that this class stays as strong and tight-knit as possible. We as a class have already had engaging and reflective conversations, and I want to not only continue having those discussions within our class, but to promote those open and productive conversations to members of the student body and faculty. My goal as your president is to make sure we continue to promote that welcoming environment amongst everyone in the student body.

Henry Long 2025 Class-Elected Commencement Speech

Following the 2024 election, Claremont McKenna College’s Keck Center for International and Strategic Studies hosted a discussion exploring the impact that a second Trump presidency will have on U.S. foreign relations. By making broad and unfair assumptions about the motives of Trump voters, they make these voters feel alienated. Some others also posited baseless theories on social media that women voted for President Trump because “white women hate black women,” or that minorities voted red because they were chasing the “whiteness they crave.” When my peers struggle to acknowledge women and people of color who prioritized a different issue in this election, they dismiss the concerns of millions of minority voters.

  • As a first-generation, low-income student, I understand the numerous challenges that come with college, even when it’s virtual.
  • CMC students deem the new data science major as “very admirable and a necessary step for CMC to remain a leading national liberal arts college,” according to David Roman ‘22, a current public policy major with a data science sequence.
  • My goal as your president is to make sure we continue to promote that welcoming environment amongst everyone in the student body.
  • In response to such concerns, Mark Huber, Professor of Mathematics and Statistics, explained that CMC is intentionally constructing the data science major to distinguish it from the computer science major.
  • It's impressive when first-year students step out of their comfort zones, especially by doing things such as running for class president!

Class of 2024: First-Year Class President Candidate Statements

They're good people who could work for him though, in New York. And so people—I do think the right’s reaction to Mamdani has been a little hysterical. And I also just think, practically speaking, New York is a huge city. So now they're rallying to Cuomo with some of them, but I don't have that much sympathy for that.

I’m Lexi Punishill and I’m hoping to get your vote for first year class president. Now, please join me in giving a warm welcome to our stellar senior class president, who has done so much for our class this year, Tori Williams! This breath, however shallow it may be, inspires a hunger for the heavenly, a thirst for the transcendent, and a recognition of our incompleteness and ignorance. I love watching movies, hanging out with my friends, traveling, and trying out new foods. I studied abroad in Milan during the spring semester of my junior year and had the time of my life traveling around Europe. In my free time, I love to thrift, listen to music, read, and gab for hours with my friends.

Your education has led you out, graduation is just a step, and this commencement is just the beginning. Today’s ceremony inaugurates rather than culminates your intellectual journey, and Claremont is a mere Route-66 pit stop on your path towards truth. As you walk the stage, remember that you join in a tradition that spans nine decades here at CMC and ten centuries around the world. You’re imperfect, and you always will be, on this side of paradise. Graduates, the world you enter is a wonderful place, but it has its dangers. But without the strange correspondence between our minds and reality, none of this research would be possible.

When I’m not grinding on schoolwork, I love to play pickleball, swim, and work out. I'm a PPE & Legal Studies major. I’m so excited to plan fun events together to help our community thrive.

I want to represent the whole class and your ideas, dreams, and wishes. More accessible virtual events to accommodate people from all over the world. I have so many ideas for us to connect during this time.
